Turn HUD field offices into wifi hoptspots.
Hey guys—I still need some more information on what you guys are looking for. Would this wifi be for just staff, or the public? if the public, what would be the intended benefit (related to the tremendous cost) over using carrier data connection?
on the short answer there is a big form for inspection the HA fills out a few items only says what HUD requires only. Its a problem helps landlords not fix and keep security $$. Inspections last one on a compter and i had to sign a blank screen have no idea what i signed off on. But wiht all in flux i was afraid to add that complaint. should have since all went south anyway. On one inspect form maybe a year or 2 ago i wrote dont agree, got lots of lfack form the inspectortr said i couldnt writ on forms, but that just sits in a HA file so it doesn't really matter.. to help fix maybe the move in landlord/tenant inspection form needs to be submitted to the HA file. then the HA can worry about the discrepancies and might consider the tenants needs vs fulfilling the min HUD requirements for inspection.
Lol no. after ayear of the mold i am allergic to kept all others away the cieling was caving and they fixed the draft via warped door was not a problem to any one but a tenant.. LUX living in Newport beach so things kept going downhill Iam homeless again things went from bad to horrific. complicated i was in a place couldnt get an aide i needed and the big landlord had lots of vacancies in many complexes took 8 and Vash then once full raised rated thru roof. on ssi cant pay double adjusted income and eat . they tossed woman in wheelchair too many others. The HA said not my job to work wiht disabled and put in request for 120% too late aftert an out of area advocate made some calls only- ignored VA Phd asking since feb.. to help fix. HA believes failing out of school making disabled homeless best fix said not my job to help disabled to ruin relationship with the local landbaron for oworking wiht others. If HA is to cut 500 vouchers and all form the bottom in a very expensive area and self report they help disabled when they fight us Things are going to continue to regress. The Irvine co Bren also donated $20 mill to Cahpman law school so the piddle funds for helping vets meant legal assist was a phone call from an unskilled law student on strait landlord tenant law only. None of the Hud funded or other free legal do FHEO/ 504 etc. we have rights on paper. we just cant access them. Appears Pih also helped delayed the 120request and wrote it to protect HA and approved once they knew i was evicted and out day after. NICE. low income cripples to the road tappears to be the OC, CA plan. HA doesn't help figure out how to fix access if problem they figure out how to dump. VRAp money wasted and i had to drop and lost soooo much and suffering bad and so much taxpayer and charitable $$ instead of real help.. The system was broken long before it was broke. ILcs have funds services for Olmstead covers for the rest of the disabled its info and referral -at best. My hopes to start a non profit despite lots of disabilty art therapy to help otehr vets who have PTSD too is looking impossible though i did sign up for spring school again how will i get decent housing now evicted there was NO help to physically or financially move found till after evict... so i couldn't leave before one. :( ( bet you weren't planning on the long answer. ;) )
Hi, jay I'm a bit confused on what this request is about . Are there HUD offices that can't respond to the disabled public, staffers , HAs, others who may rely on internet email as the major form of communication? Upon further consideration, I'm thinking its not wise to open a public/fed wifi access port at fed bldgs and besides hacker issues there are not a lot of people living near most fed bldgs so there would be little bang for the buck . It would seem allowing wifi as a counted utility for sect8 VASH and other HUD funded renters/sheltered with disability would be the best answer for the public access. All consumer programs that assist homeless and others using HUD funds should have a passworded wifi access point and at least some computer access for public so people can better help themselves. There are plenty of computers that get donated and resold and some of these could be diverted to HUD funded social services agencies. I wonder if a big corp like Apple could be persuaded to make a for Non Profits computer to do fast search and mail grab/copy/ save/basic calendar/calculator functions -save to a flash drive- only... so NPs who serve public can buy the needed basic resource cheap.

We ahve a training room in our office that does not have the ability of computers to connect to the internet. This becomes a problem when we are pulling people in for a training. Having the ability to access the web would make it a more functional space.

We would like to see HUD and the corporate cable companies get together to make available wi-fi hotspots and cable services available that are affordable to low income residents.
We need to be informed on what's happening in the world and make available a source of learning for all people, regardless of their income status.
This needs to be accessible to all from the comfort of their home.
why not all fed bldgs/ offices have public wifi ? tenants lanldords any one can email look-up and do more w paperless info .Maybe get what you need then and cut most long distance phone calls too?
